The following is a message sent by our Chairman, Quintin Watt, on May 16th, 2020:

Dear Members and Friends,

I am writing to you for a number of reasons, the first of which is to confirm that you are all well and coping with the lock-down.

Secondly, I must regrettably confirm that our May and June presentations have been postponed (19 May: Five Victorian Hospitals,  26 May: Viruses in Human Health (!) and 30 June: Oscar Reijlander). Given the on-going health emergency, the committee are not confident the July and August presentations will take place in person either, and we may be looking to re-start Wolverhampton Society events at some point in the autumn.

Both of the latter events, Lady Wulfrun: A Mixed Race Princess? and Forgotten Soldiers of the Midlands Railway, are scheduled to be presented by members of the committee. As such, we would be very interested to hear from members as to whether they would be interested in hearing these talks either via Zoom video conferencing, or via a pre-recorded video? Please let me know and we can look into this as soon as possible.

With regards to events that have been postponed, we will endeavour to re-schedule all of these at a point in future when it is deemed safe to do so. Members will still receive their free copy of The Lamp magazine once it has been printed – hopefully by the end of July.

With the likelihood that many of this year’s events are unlikely to take place, the committee has decided to extend all current memberships up to the end of 2021 at no additional cost. This will also be applied to people who want to join for the remainder of this year, so please pass this message on to anyone who you think would be interested in joining us. We are extremely thankful for your support over this difficult period, and feel that this is the right thing to do to show our gratitude.

In the meantime, you can still follow events via our website, Facebook https://www.facebook.com/TheWolverhamptonSociety/, or Twitter https://twitter.com/TheWolvSociety pages.

In case you missed any of our stories, we have the following recent additions:

In the meantime, I wish you all the very best, please take care and ‘keep in touch’.

Quintin,

Chairman: The Wolverhampton Society
