Happy New Year to one and all! With the start of a new year, we also see the start of a new decade. To kick off the “Roaring 20s part II”, we have assembled a diverse calendar featuring the largest number of events we have ever put on in one year. We are also moving to a new venue for twelve of our thirteen talks; Penn United Reformed Church at 333, Penn Road, WV4 5QF.

Our first talk of the year stole the show at the 2019 Wolverhampton History Symposium.

What’s On This Year?

We kick off the year with the winner of 2019’s Wolverhampton History Symposium, Jayne Murray. Her talk on the construction of the Wolverhampton ring road is excellent and is free to all, members or visitors. Just use the Eventbrite link to book a place for this popular entry. Another highlight of the 2020 calendar is our first ever performance at the Wolverhampton Literature Festival (where you will be able to buy our freshly-printed book on Wolverhampton in WW1).

February sees the society’s first ever showing at the Wolverhampton Literature Festival.

Our calendar for 2020 is book-ended by a performance by a local legend with an international reputation. Professor Carl Chinn will be in town to tell us about the REAL Peaky Blinders and will have copies of his book of the same name available. This event is set to be a real treat and helps to solidify our Christmas Lecture series as a really important local tradition. Tickets will go on sale for this towards the end of January and you will want to book early to avoid disappointment.

What About Other Events?

Please note that this is still the provisional calendar, by which we mean this is the minimum amount of events we will put on throughout the year. As the months go by, we will add more events, including our “walk and talks” once the weather picks up.

The price for visitors has increased to bring us more into line with other organisations at £3, but membership has stayed the same price at £15 and includes access to all talks bar our Christmas Lecture and gets you a copy of the 2020 Wolverhampton Lamp magazine.

Where To Find the Calendar

If you wish to sign up to be a member and want to do it online, please bear with us. Regrettably, our old PayPal account was closed down by a former committee member and we are having to start a new one up, which is taking longer than anticipated. In the meantime, you can print off the form below, complete it and return it to:

Please note, you only need to fill out one half of the form if joining on your own.
